When I first started working with bespoke jewellers Hot Pink, their Facebook page had very little structure or any sort of targeted plan.


Content was being added but it was only reaching a limited audience doing nothing to enhance the brand or help generate lead opportunities.


By working out which types of content would perform well and using Facebook advertising to ensure that content was seen by a targeted audience (e.g. recently engaged couples), interaction, followers and visits to the Hot Pink website from Facebook all skyrocketed.


In less than a year page followers went from a shade over 400 to nearly 16,000.  And most importantly, they're the right type of followers, genuine people who have a reason to engage with the business.


And because we targeted a specific audience with the right type of content, solid lead opportunities were created.

Most companies have social media profiles on sites like Twitter and Facebook, but very few actually have any specific plan of action for utilising them to drive business.


The common misconception is that just having a presence and updating these profiles on a regular basis will somehow bring about success. It won’t.


Like any marketing channel you have to understand the specifics, identify realistic goals and implement a strategy to achieve them.


There are also hundreds of social networks and not all are right for every business. Brands in the B2C market for instance normally do much better on the likes of Facebook, whereas LinkedIn is much more suited to the B2B sector.
